that's news to me... as always

Germany outrages the world when they decide to teach what the Holocaust was through... comic-books. It is indeed outrageous, yes; haven't they heard that comics are PASSÉ in Reichland? Dc's Didiot and Marvel's EnQuesada have sure RUINED the medium beyond repair... Besides, with the internet, ethernet and intranet occupying our lives 99.9% of the time now, who wants to pick up a rag printed on cheap paper anymore?!? All it does is smudge your hands (the ink comes off cheap paper!) and you can get bored for free everywhere else!

A woman pretends to be the oldest person EVER - in modern times anyhow! One hundred and twenty years-old, she claims to be... Can we really believe this old bag? Isn't she really trying to garner some perks for being the alleged elder stateswoman of the WORLD...? Getting a free ride, free meals, free limo rides AND your 15 minutes of fame on top of that is worth the lie, is it not?
Me, I'm skeptical because, just today, I was met with a bunch of highly hypocritical old bags who LIED through their ooky old yellowish teeth! They LIE as they BREATHE (still) - and the only wisdom they've truly acquired over the years is simply the refinement of the ability to LIE! I mean, come on now - a tart will not get wiser as she grows old and SENILE! They can be opportunistic on top of hypocritical though; as I believe to be the case with this alleged 120 year-old, yes...

KOSOVO now; is this silly little place truly going to be THE trigger for the Armageddon?!? Not the Middle-East? Not Irak? Not Iran?!? KOSOVO?!? The way it is forming two distinct clans - the U.S. and buddies on one side and the Usual Suspects on the other... Seems like everyone has underestimated those silly Serbs and their influence upon the rest of the gullible world, eh... They won't let Kosovo go! They're worse than Saddam's obsession with Kuwait! They just ransacked the U.S. embassy over this - and they swear on Slobodan's snout that the Western world will NOT take away Kosovo from their grasp! Sheesh - relax, Serbies! It's only real estate! If you're so keen on gaining more ground, buy stock in those Martian colonies-to-be or something...! And then get shanghaied into space, where, soon enough, Kosovo will be nothing but a small, trivial memory! Serbs In Space - that'd solve *your* problems, wouldn't it? Me, I'll be closely followed into space by all of *my* problems, I think...
(I say Serbs In Space, they say Fish In Space - ha.)

And speaking of the devils...
I can't believe the GALL and TENACITY also of some of my adversaries... THEY know who their sorry numbers are! I have but one tiny nagging & puzzling question, really... WHY do they insist, WHY?!? They've seen my resolve; they've tasted my poise and own brand of perseverence AND tenacity...! Heck, they've gotten a taste of TRUE JUSTICE, THROUGH ME! (They wouldn't have gotten any if it wasn't for me - not on this earth, they wouldn't! They would have had to wait, LIKE MOST EVERYBODY ELSE, for GOD ALMIGHTY Himself to give it to them, STICK it to them, on Judgment Day! But we're getting ahead of ourselves again - aren't we? Yeah!)

So they've seen IT ALL - with me... Luminous little me!
And yet, they keep TRYING!
Trying my PATIENCE, really...
INCREDIBLE!
Incredibly pathetic, that is.

Word to the not-so-wise: don't bother anymore.
I AM WARNING YOU.
Don't tempt me, adversaries of mine - the temptation to decimate your numbers is already very, very strong...
And I don't have to lift a finger either, pallies...

You've been warned.
À bons (ou mauvais - têtes de pioches!) entendeurs - allez vous faire foutre!
;)

Fish in space in motion sickness study

Thu Feb 21, 7:00 PM ET

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Seventy-two small fish were briefly launched into space by researchers Thursday, hoping their swimming patterns would shed some light on motion sickness.

German researchers sent the cichlids on a 10-minute rocket ride that blasted off from a launch pad in northern Sweden, said Professor Reinhard Hilbig, who was in charge of the project.

"They were very happy, I think they want to have another flight," he said.

The thumbnail-sized fish were filmed as they swam around weightlessly in small aquariums during the unmanned space flight.

The German team will now study the video to see if some of the fish swam in circles because that is what fish do when they experience motion sickness, said Hilbig, of the Zoological Institute at the University of Stuttgart.

He said scientists hope the experiment can help explain why some people experience motion sickness while others do not. The mechanisms involved are similar for both fish and humans.

Hilbig said the fish landed safely and appeared to be in good condition.

Cichlids were picked for the experiment because they are sturdy fish who were deemed to have good chances to survive the stress of a space flight.

"Goldfish are a little bit fat and messy, while the cichlid fish is a well-trained, sporty fish with muscles," he said.

China 'concerned', Australia backs Kosovo split

Sun Feb 17, 9:30 PM

PARIS (AFP) - Australia on Monday became the lastest nation to welcome Kosovo's declaration of independence, joining the United States and several European powers, despite fierce objections from Serbia and Russia.

But China was among countries unhappy with Kosovo's breakaway from Serbia, declaring it was "deeply concerned" about the future of peace in the region.

"The unilateral approach by Kosovo may cause a series of consequences and lead to severe negative influences on the peace and stability of the Balkan region," foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in a statement.

"China expresses deep concern about this."

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said diplomatic recognition of the new state would be offered soon.

"We've already indicated to our diplomatic representatives around the world that this (independence) would be an appropriate course of action," Rudd told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Russia angrily condemned Kosovo's announcement, and called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council late Sunday to discuss the issue.

But it failed to get backing for its call to declare "null and void" the decision by Kosovo's Albanian majority on Sunday to break away.

Russia has been Serbia's strongest backer in opposing Kosovo's independence, which President Vladimir Putin said last week would be "idiotic and illegal."

The United States, Britain, France, Germany and Italy have all indicated that their formal recognition will come on Monday.

Those countries around the world with separatist problems however -- from Spain to Sri Lanka -- have expressed concern at Kosovo's split.

The United States and most European nations gave a cautious initial reaction to the independence declaration ahead of a crucial EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels on Monday.

But even as the international community called for calm, rioting broke out on the streets of Belgrade, and grenades were thrown at EU and UN buildings in the northern Kosovo town of Mitrovica late Sunday.

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the United States "calls on all parties to exert utmost restraint and to refrain from any provocative act."

A significant minority in the 27-nation EU -- Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain -- oppose recognising Kosovo. Others like Malta and Portugal would prefer Kosovo's future be decided at the UN Security Council.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus warned that Kosovo's independence could unleash a domino affect in Europe.

"Some parties in other states could realise that they do not feel completely at ease within a big state in which they are now," he said in a television interview.

As if on cue, the breakaway Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia immediately seized on Kosovo's break, saying they would ask Russia and the UN to recognise their independence, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.

"In the near future Abkhazia will appeal to the Russian parliament and the UN Security Council with a request to recognise its independence," self-declared Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh was quoted as saying by Interfax.

South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity made a similar appeal.

Some states see Kosovo as setting a dangerous precedent for other separatist movements. Cyprus is already split, with a Turkey-recognised statelet in the north. Spain has long struggled with radical Basque nationalists.

And the Sri Lankan government, which is battling separatist Tamil Tiger rebels, warned Kosovo's declaration could set an "unmanageable precedent" and was a violation of the United Nations charter.

The foreign ministry said it "could set an unmanageable precedent in the conduct of international relations, the established global order of sovereign states and could thus pose a grave threat to international peace and security."

Others are reluctant to recognise Kosovo because of their close ties to Serbia.

Slovakia said Sunday it would not recognise independence for the time being. Romania, which is traditionally close to Serbia, said its opposition was unchanged.

There is also anxiety on Kosovo's borders. Macedonia, which has a significant ethnic Albanian minority, said it was closely watching events.

Government spokesman Ivica Bocevski told AFP: "Whatever decision we are going to take, we will take care of the interests of our citizens, as well as the state and national interests of Macedonia."

Ethnic Albanians account for around 25 percent of Macedonia's two-million population. In 2001, the government and ethnic Albanian rebels waged a brief fight mostly in the northern and western parts of the country.

0 0 Report Abuse Disgusted. Taiwan has been applying for UN status for many many years. They're always turned down. China is not concerned with Taiwan, Taiwan already considers itself independant. Other nations won't suddenly "get on the Taiwan bandwagon" Taiwan has been trying for years already and they haven't yet.

Kosovo's independence is causing a split among countries that may or may not grow into something "huge"...

That old lady who claims to be 120 is causing another kind of split:
the usual "hoax or no hoax" kind...

Woman claims to be 120

Status: Undetermined

Mariam Amash, who lives in the village of Jisr a-Zarka in Israel, claims that she is 120 years old. Her claim recently surfaced when she applied for a new Israeli identity card.

She might be telling the truth. Apparently she has a birth certificate issued by Turkish authorities, who ruled Jisr a-Zarka back in 1888 when Amash says she was born. She also has eleven children, the eldest one being in her late 80s. So assuming that her children aren't lying about their ages, Amash would have to be at least over 100 years old.

If Amash really is 120, that would make her the oldest person in the world. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the current record holder is 114-year-old Edna Parker of Indiana.

The reason to be skeptical about her claim is because of the phenomenon of age exaggeration. Elderly people often lie about their age, pretending to be older than they really are. They usually do this because claiming extreme age is a way to gain social status. In Amash's case, it seems kind of odd that she would have eleven children, if she only had her first child when she was in her mid 30s (which the age difference between her and her oldest daughter suggests).

Researchers have been fooled by the age exaggeration phenomenon before. The most famous case occurred in the Ecuadorian town of Vilcabamba, located high in the Andes. The town gained fame during the 1970s because it appeared to be the home of 23 centenarians, which statistically was unheard of. Even one centenarian among a population that small would have been extraordinary. It turned out that basically all the elderly people in the village were lying about their ages. When researchers carefully examined the birth records, they realized there wasn't a single person over 100 in the village. The average age of the people claiming to be over 100 was 86. The plans to build a longevity research center in the village had to be scrapped.

Anthropologists have known about this age extension for decades, it most often happens in areas that are not industrial nor where records are not kept. People as they age will increase their number of years and often are not lying but confused. It seems that age isn't the sort of important information that is kept by most societies until modern industrial societies.

Berlin - German schools will launch a comic book next week that aims to teach above all underprivileged children about the Nazi era and the Holocaust.

Although German schools already make a big effort to give pupils a thorough education about the Nazi era, racist violence remains a problem, and the revival of Germany's Jewish community has brought a rise in anti-Semitism with it.

The Tintin-style comic book is called The Search, and tells the story of Esther, a fictional Jewish survivor of the Holocaust.

Created by the Dutch cartoonist Eric Heuvel, it is already available in the Netherlands. Berlin's Anne Frank Centre, which is backing the project, thinks it will serve a purpose in Germany, too.

"There is not a major gap in the way Germany teaches the history of this era, but this is a new approach," said spokesperson Melina Feingold, noting that the book could reach some of the children who are least interested in schoolwork: "We hope the comic will get even underprivileged kids interested in learning about the Holocaust."

The 61-page book, already available in various European languages, will be used alongside worksheets in history classes at secondary schools in Berlin for six months, after which the project hopes to go nationwide.

The book, based on fact, describes how Jews in Germany and the Nazi-occupied Netherlands experienced the genocidal Nazi persecution that took the lives of 6 million European Jews.

It includes the Night of Broken Glass in November 1938, when Jews were beaten and their homes, businesses and synagogues were ransacked and, later on, the deportations to the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Through pictures and realistic dialogue, the book depicts the suffering and humiliation that Jews endured as they were stripped of their livelihoods, ostracised and, finally, sent to camps to be worked to death or gassed.

After five decades when it had only a handful of Jewish residents, Germany now has the world's fastest growing Jewish community, with 220 000 arriving from the former Soviet Union since 1990.

But violent anti-Semitic crime is also increasing. Last month, five Jewish teenagers were attacked by a group of punks and subjected to anti-Semitic abuse.

The new comic book is a sequel to Heuvel's The Discovery, also aimed at school children, based on Jewish history in Europe from 1933 to 1940.
