Ramblin Man
Heck, even more upbeat stuff isn't HALF as good as it used to be (IMHO) - no!
Songs like this one, by The Outfield, have no equal TODAY:
The Outfield: 'Since You've Been Gone'
This is the REAL "Since You've Been Gone" - nothing to do with the crap that American False Idol chick sings over and over again (since it is her only true hit, practically!)
Man - where have all the GENUINE ONES gone to?
Joey Ramone - DEAD.
Jerry Garcia - DEAD.
Bradley Delp, lead singer of BOSTON - he's gone too.
No wonder we're in such a mudpit, music-wise
AND OTHERWISE!
Listening to Boston's hit song "Amanda" brings me to such nostalgic territory nowadays - I could cry!
Tom Scholz is still with us, at least - (well, good for us, so-so for him?)
but judging from past experiments (new or replacement lead singers for Van Halen, INXS and Genesis) substituting anybody for Bradley Delp, even someone supremely talented, will not work out.
No, folks...
Lightning cannot strike twice in the same place.
(Even though some guy apparently did get struck twice - but he was the exception that reaffirmed the rule!)
Lightning cannot be replicated - THAT is for sure!
Boston - the town as the band - has lost a big one. An irreplaceable one.
All the true greats are gone - they've either crashed and burned like Buddy Holly (some did so without ever flying either) or they left painfully, after a long pilgrimage rife with torment - the great Johnny Cash comes to mind.
Roy Orbison also comes to mind.
The troubled Del Shannon also...
Ritchie Valens - gotta mention him, since I mentioned Buddy...!
And The Big Bopper!
I could go on AD INFINITUM...!
Their likes are NOT going to resurface again - EVER.
Certainly not under the keen, sharp eye for talent that Simon Cowell allegedly has - not!
But that is another story...
