Forget about all that Bond drivel - such as the upcoming Quantum Of Solace or any other Bond available on DVD and/or Blu-Ray disc! Reality is once again proving to be far more interesting than even the most outrageous fiction! These are good/bad/odd times to be living in - and here are just a few reasons why...!
Propane blasts have more than inconvenienced a whole lot of Toronto residents - and mayor David Miller (with all his obvious P.R. training and calm soap-operaish demeanor) cannot keep people from being concerned...! If propane gas leaks can cause this much massive destruction - couldn't it happen at any time, and anywhere...? What's to say most of T.O. will not be a burning melting pot by the end of the decade? Well, at least no one will have to NUKE it, eh? Nobody would bother with the nuking of T.O. anyway...! But that is another story!
As Toronto panics with its propane blasts that come out of the blue as far as city officials are concerned, me, I cannot help but to think of just a few years back...! SARS and the West Nile Virus were the two HUGE concerns for Canadian metropolises such as T.O. and Vancouver - not anything else, least of all any concerns over propane, a resource they allegedly have "under control"...! It was SARS and the Virus, yes; which had prompted many cartoonists to draw psychotronic cartoons of the absurd situation in which we usally saw SARS represented by a huge gelatinous fiend hovering above the city, fighting it out with a gigantic mosquitoe, clearly a colossal carrier of the West Nile Virus! And, in this epic urban confrontation of titans, right at the heart of the city, unconcerned with any sky scrapers that might get knocked down in the process of their rumble, the two behemoths had a third opponent waiting in the wings: Mad Cow Disease, appropriately embodied by the skeletal and ghastly figue of a dead cow - of course. On a parallel with all that "creativity" I recall having my own creative surges of a questionable nature: it was around those years, I do believe, that I took to lampooning the usual gang of idiots employed by one Vince McMahon and when came time to do a take-off on his precious new big guy, whom he called "Big Daddy Cool, Diesel" I thought it logical to go with the other gas... Propane! Hence "Pro-Payne" a pro at dishing out pain, was born! And the catch with my big guy: he ran out of gas real fast! He was to have a gargantuan appetite and, the longer he went without food, the less "pro" and apt at dishing out any kind of pain was he! He'd just lose interest - and look for a snack instead! I thought my parody was right on too... ;)
But back to T.O. now -
Meanwhile, only a few miles north, the other Canadian city that's become too-much-of-a-melting-pot, Montreal, created its own blasts as, there, those were the handiwork of the riotous local residents - AGAIN. At least it wasn't Habs-handiwork; this time, for once, they almost had a CAUSE there, them riotous rebels...! They lamented the death of an 18 year-old punk, felled by the bullets of the local constabulary force for being all that he could possibly be, and proceeded to do so with violence by once again vandalizing commercial property and private property alike - and even shooting a lady cop for good measure (only in the leg though; they're such poor shots, them "Montréal-Nord punks"...!)
And the Montreal mayor now, gee-whiz, does he sound anemic or what! Unlike his counterpart in T.O., mayor Gerald Tremblay sounds wimpy, geeky, Woody-Allenish almost - there's just no commander-in-chief aura there! But that should not be surprizing in the least either... What is surprising is that THEY all sound surprised and so disappointed that there's been more disgracious rioting on their turf - once more tarnishing the already seriously-tarnished image of that sorry town! Hey, look at the bright side, Gerald: at least THIS TIME there was some semblance of a GOOD REASON to revolt like this, to go through all these excesses that turned several blocks of your precious town (as many as a dozen at the very least) into a literal WAR ZONE - without the war per say! The punk who was shot dead at 18 years of age was, apparently, not a dangerous criminal at all! Okay, he wasn't to become a very useful citizen either; but he could have been allowed to live on a wasteful life, as most of them apparently have the "right" to - while collecting social welfare checks, promiscuously reproducing themselves always out-of-wedlock (forget that aspect of the sad state of affairs: what about the fact that the mommies never really know WHO the daddy is anymore?!? lol) AND not contributing one iota to the "collectivité" as they say over there...!
The cherry on top of all this, though?
These Montreal and Toronto morons and turds are so much like the Americans: they always think the bad stuff will happen "elsewhere, not here" and when they do get to see some footage of what is going on in the world, ACTUAL WAR ZONES WHERE DEATH AND DECAY ARE AN EVERYDAY FACT, they remain unfazed by it... It is so ironic that, at their own hands and due to their own incompetence and/or lack of vigilance, their two precious sprawling urban cities are looking like any other war zone abroad: with flames, millions in damages, chaos, anarchy and despair at every corner!
The real deal is happening in GEORGIA though; not the United State, evidently... Russia has always had the knack (or misfortune) to be typecast as the bad guy of service - and here, once again, it looks like the bully picking on the smaller guy...! Georgia is fighting back though - a David not afraid to repeat history and TRY, at least, to topple another Goliath... Well, not really of course; all it hopes for is to be left alone by "Mother Russia" - and they might get their wish, especially with the United Nations involvement...
Until then, the mismatch war, Georgia versus Russia, will go on for a while longer - at least it's a REAL CONFLICT, with damages that have a logical reason of BEING THERE, unlike the silly events that keep happening in places like T.O. and Montreal... Absolutely avoidable silly events - that, quite absurdly and revoltingly, DO cost lives too, sometimes. (Is there any real need to go over that umpteenth death in Afghanistan -WHAT ARE CANADIAN TROOPS STILL DOING THERE- or that crazy Kitimat BC family feud that puts to shame even the Addams Family?!?)
Mercifully, these crazy things cost lives on a much smaller scale.
Everything is on a smaller scale in Canada - don't you know it yet? Vast land they have - for absolutely nothing! What a waste...
But that is another story!
Nuff said - for now!
